Why I've Been Carrying A Dollar Coin In My Pocket

Stock Market Starters Blog/Why I've Been Carrying A Dollar Coin In My Pocket

For the past two weeks I've had a dollar coin sitting in my pocket everywhere I go. Not because it's worth much. It's there because it reminds me of something that changed how I think about money, and I want to walk you through why.

Your Money Should Be Your Best Employee

There's an old idea I heard a while back that stuck with me. Your money should be your best employee. Think about what that actually means. The best employee in the world never sleeps, never asks for a raise, never goes home early, never calls in sick. It just works, 24/7, no matter what. That's exactly what happens when you learn to invest in a way where you own pieces of companies that pay dividends.

You buy in, and from that point forward, that piece of ownership pays you just for holding it. You're not trading your hours for dollars anymore. Your money is doing that instead. Whether you're at the beach, sitting at your desk, or on the couch watching TV, that dividend shows up either way. It doesn't ask what you did today. It just pays you for owning something real.

The Moment I Realized I Was Past A Dollar A Day

A dollar a day doesn't sound like much. Honestly, it isn't. But there was a moment for me when I looked at my account and realized I'd crossed a dollar a day in passive income. No matter what I was doing that day, that dollar showed up. My first thought wasn't "that's it." It was "if I can make a dollar a day, can I make two? Can I make five? Can I make ten?"

Here's where it gets interesting. A dollar a day over 40 years adds up to $14,600. Bump that to $5 a day and you're over $73,000. Get to $10 a day and you're looking at $1.46 million. And that's before any compounding or growth in the stock itself. The real number ends up being a lot higher than that once you let time and growth do their thing.

That's the part people miss. A dollar a day feels small in the moment. But small numbers compounded over decades stop being small. They become life-changing.

A New Relationship With Money

That moment changed something in how my mind worked. I went from seeing money as something I had to trade hours for, to seeing it as an employee working for me every single day, all year, no matter what I was doing. That's a different relationship with money than most people ever get to experience, and it's available to anyone willing to start, even with small amounts.

I still carry that dollar coin. Not because I need the reminder of what a dollar is worth. I carry it because it reminds me what's possible when your money starts working instead of just sitting there.

So here's the question I want to leave you with. What would it feel like if you knew your money was working for you no matter what you were doing? What number would make you go, whoa, my money is actually working for me? A dollar a day? Five? Ten?

P.S. I made a video a while back that talks about this idea in more detail... Check it out here:
