Are You Asking The Right Question About Investing...?

Stock Market Starters Blog/Are You Asking The Right Question About Investing...?

Most people who never start investing aren't scared of the stock market. They're scared of losing money while they learn. And honestly? They're right to think about it. There is a real cost to becoming good at anything, including investing. I've heard it called the success tax, and the first time I heard it, it changed how I thought about the whole thing.

Here's what I mean. When I started investing, I had $50 every two weeks from a part-time job in college. That was all I could afford. And I had a real fear that I'd put it in, lose it, and that would be the end of it. So I kept waiting. Waiting until I had more, waiting until I knew more, waiting until the fear went away. The fear didn't go away. The waiting was just costing me.

The Tax Is Real, But Smaller Than You Think

If you want to be successful at anything, you're going to pay a cost to learn it. And That's not just investing. Think about business, starting a business means learning to do sales, marketing, ads, websites, fulfillment. You might get sued. You will figure things out the hard way, and that figuring out costs you. The same is true with investing. You're going to put money in and at some point you're going to lose some. That's not a warning. That's just what the game is.

The thing is, the success tax for investing is way smaller than people think it is. Most beginners aren't going to lose their entire account. They're going to make a few wrong picks, learn from them, and get better. That's it. The cost of learning is real, but it's not the end of the world.

The Question You Should Be Asking

I heard a reframe from a guy named Myron Golden that completely changed how I look at this. He says most people ask the wrong question. They ask, "What does it cost me?" And then they stop there. The real question is bigger.

What does it cost you right now to not know how to invest?

Let that sit for a second. Because that number is huge.

I remember the moment I realized I was making $1 every single day in passive income. No matter what I was doing. Working, sleeping, goofing off at the lake. One dollar, every day, just showing up in my account. That's $365 a year. Over 40 years, that's $14,600 I would have 'paid' by not knowing how.

$5 a day? $73,000 over 40 years.

$100 a day? $1.46 million over 40 years.

And that's if you just pull the money out and never let it compound. The real number is way bigger than that.

So when you tell me you're worried about losing $300 or $500 while you learn, I'm not dismissing that. That money is real and I get why it feels scary. But are you worried about the smaller number? Or the bigger one?

Shrink The Tax By Following A Proven Path

Here's the part that actually solves the problem. The success tax isn't a fixed cost. You can make it smaller.

How? By following someone who's already a few steps ahead of you and has been doing this for a while. That's literally the whole reason I built the First Stock Challenge. Three days, and it's live. I walk you through what to do, in what order, so you're not muddling through and figuring it out alone. You're following a proven path.

Your tax gets smaller because you're not making the same mistakes I had to make on my own.

You don't have to be a finance wiz. You don't have to have a lot of money. You just have to be willing to start, and willing to learn from someone who knows what they're doing.

If you want to figure out what that looks like for you, register for the free 3-day First Stock Challenge here. It's up to you to decide: which tax do you want to pay?
